When I first pulled up to meet our new potential client in January 2021, I panicked when I couldn’t find the front door. The main home was (and still is) attached to an ADU and the front door was lost in between. That troublesome entry set the tone for how we would shift orientation to the proper star of the show - an exquisite view of Mount Crested Butte herself.
This 70’s era log-kit home needed more than a boost and, for our client, this meant prioritizing dinner parties with local chefs, incorporating masculine details, and emphasis on natural elements. Our initial design scope was hefty but direct. Then the addition of a small upstairs dormer window revealed a completely uninsulated roof turning our relatively straight-forward project into one far more robust.
Luckily, with the expertise of Jim Barney with Freestyle Architects and Jason Kidd with Hargrove Kidd Construction, we finalized a revised plan that allowed for the maximizing of critical square footage and uncompromised style.
Our client requested a masculine, livable, mountain modern aesthetic so we looked to organic volcanic stone tile, hide and leather textiles, and a local artist, Jeff Scott, who built our custom light fixtures to mimic surrounding nature and the mountain’s ski runs that also allow for “peak” visibility at all angles.
